IHS Christogram

IHS is a monogram of the name of Jesus Christ, which comes from the abbreviation IHΣ (iota-eta-sigma) of the name of Jesus in Greek (ΙΗΣΟΥΣ), to which the final sigma letter was eventually changed by an S.

The IHS Cristograma is a symbol of Jesus for Christians, although it is often associated with other symbols of Jesus Christ, such as the cross, the 3 nails or the crown of thorns.

An IHS variant is the JHS monogram, which is used for the same purpose.
