Pope John XXIII

His secular name was Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli and he was born on November 25, 1881 in Sotto il Monte (Italy).

He studied humanities, philosophy and even the second year of theology.

He was elected Pope on October 28, 1958, and took the name John XXIII.

In his five years as Pope, the image of the Good Shepherd was seen in him. He convoked the Roman Synod, instituted the Commission for the revision of the Code of Canon Law, and convoked the Second Vatican Ecumenical Council. As Bishop of the Diocese of Rome, he visited parishes and churches in the historic center and the periphery.

The people called him "the Pope of goodness". He was sustained by a deep spirit of prayer; he was the initiator of the renewal of the Church.

He died on June 3, 1963 and was canonized by Pope Francis I on April 27, 2014.
