Saint Roch
St. Roch was born in Montpellier (France).
He traveled through Italy and dedicated himself to cure those infected with the plague that was then present.
In Piacenza he also contracted the disease and retired to live in a cave so as not to infect anyone, but there appeared a little dog that every day brought him a loaf of bread and licked his sores.
San Roque is, together with San Sebastian, the advocate of epidemics, especially the plague, and together with San Antonio Abad, the patron saint of animals, especially dogs.
The day of San Roque is celebrated on August 16.
